Tiffany Haddish is being sued for over a million dollars by her ex-husband William Stewart on charges of libel, slander, and defamation. This comes after Haddish published a book in 2017 called "The Last Black Unicorn" that portrayed Stewart maliciously.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Stewart denies the assertions and accusations against him, especially the way they depicted his persona. While he wasn't named in the book, it can be assumed that they were written about him since there is an entire chapter about "The Ex-Husband".
The book has statements by the 38-year-old actress saying that the only man she ever married "beat, kidnapped, and stalked her" and later on ultimately implicated that his abuse led to her miscarriage.
In response to these extreme accusations, Stewart says that the "Girls Trip" actually had an abortion, and that the lies she told about him being the reason for her miscarriage were dismissed by the court.
William also confirmed that their marriage spanned from 2008-2013, despite Haddish claiming that they were married and divorced in two different occasions.
Stewart, an army veteran, also shared with the court how displeased he was when finding out that his ex-wife included his mother Elnora Daughtry in her book. Tiffany claims that Stewart was actually abused when he was growing up, and that led to his mother turning a willing blind eye to his abusive treatment of Haddish.
According to Michael Sterling, the lawyer of the Stewarts,
"For the defendants' own profit, they painted my clients as abusers in a best-selling book. After a thorough review of the facts and evidence, we know that the assertions made by the defendants about my clients in "The Last Black Unicorn" are patently untrue."
The statement says "defendants" due to Tucker Max, Tiffany's co-writer, and their publishing company Simon and Schuster being included in the suit.
"Powerful people and influential corporations can't intentionally and recklessly destroy someone's reputation with malicious lies for their own profit. And that after futile attempts to privately reconcile the situation, they have "no choice but to seek legal recourse"."
