In 2020, Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges revealed to his fans that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma, a form of cancer. He started with chemotherapy, and everything seemed to be going great until the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

At the start of the pandemic, Bridges was doing good. The therapy for his lymphoma was doing wonders, and he seemed to be on the verge of remission. Unfortunately, while undergoing chemotherapy, he contracted COVID-19.

The 72-year-old's health took a big dive after he fell ill with the virus. He explained that the chemo had rendered his immune system useless, adding, "I was just really at death's door a couple of times there."

At the time, COVID-19 vaccines weren't available yet, so the actor had to fight the virus on his own with a compromised immune system. Needless to say, it was an uphill battle. The "Big Lebowski" star shared in an interview:

"I remember the doctors saying to me, 'Jeff, you gotta fight.' I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought, 'Man, I'm in surrender mode here.' With a great medical team, great trainers and my family, everybody brought me back."

Luckily, Bridges managed to fight the virus, and he recovered eventually. With the help and support of his family and his doctors, he also managed to beat cancer, and he was officially in remission in September 2021.

How Does Jeff Bridges Teach His Granddaughter to Dance?

After his recovery, Bridges was over the moon as he got to spend more time with his daughters and grandkids. His daughter, Isabelle Bridges, posted photos on Instagram of him dancing with his granddaughter, Grace Bridges.

The two photos caught the granddad showing his granddaughter the ropes as he held her by the hand with a smile. In the pictures, it's easy to see how far Bridges has come from when he was at his lowest. The images were captioned, "Learning to dance is a big part of the Bridges family tradition."

Briges realized family is a great gift after thinking he wouldn't live long enough to see his daughter get married.

The Bridges family has adopted dancing because it played a vital role in the actor's recovery process. When the "True Grit" star was in the hospital battling two life-threatening ailments, the thought of walking his daughter down the aisle kept him going.

He kept thinking about giving Haley Bridges away at her wedding and practiced walking and standing up for longer than 45 seconds with a trainer, building up enough strength to give his daughter away. He revealed:

"And it turns out I not only got to walk her down the aisle, but I got to do the wedding dance."

Bridges said that being close to death taught him many lessons about appreciating family. Now, with his health almost restored, the family seems to have made dancing integral to their gatherings.

Who Is the Love of Jeff Bridges' Life?

Bridges realized family is a great gift after thinking he wouldn't live long enough to see his daughter get married. Before he got sick, he and his wife, Susan Geston, were already unbelievably happy together.

After recovering from his illnesses, the actor decided to devote even more time and energy to his marriage and his children. The romance between him and his wife hasn't faded over the years, and he feels lucky to have her. He said:

"Sue and I were looking at each other and we went, 'How lucky are we?' I hug that girl and I get recharged. It's right there, so accessible."

The two have been together for 45 years. They fell in love when they first met during one of his early films, "Rancho Deluxe." She was working as a waitress back then, and when he laid his eyes on her, he knew she was the one for him.

Susan had been in an accident and had scars on her face when they met. The mixture of her beautiful face, black eyes, and broken nose intrigued Bridges, and he went over to say hello. Initially, she didn't go out with him, but things worked out later.

These days, Bridges is glad he has more time to devote to his family, especially after they supported him when he was sick. While the actor is still working, he sees his family often and ensures he stays healthy to keep seeing them.
