During an interview for the new issue of Closer Weekly, the "Terms of Endearment" star made no hesitation in stating how happy she was as she said:
"I love nature. I'm watching mountains. Animals. Isolated here, you find your spiritual meaning."
Her statement seemed to resonate with her lifestyle of being a loner as her 63-year-old daughter, Sachi Parker, once hinted that Shirley was an absentee mother. Luckily, the break from the world has allowed the duo to work at their relationship.
While she's rebuilding her relationship with her daughter, Shirley is also her brother, Warren Beatty, and his wife, Annette Bening, whom she adores.
Per her Biography page, the actress became a household name when she performed in the mid-1950s Broadway musical of "The Pajama Game."
Shirley had been a part of the show's chorus as well as an understudy for one of its notable characters, which made her more visible to talent scouts including producer Hal Wallis.
Her connection with Hal made it easier for the actress to break into Hollywood as she soon landed a contract with Paramount Pictures.

By 1955, Shirley made her film debut in the Alfred Hitchcock-directed "The Trouble with Harry." Since then, the star has worked on several films such as "Steel Magnolias," "The Turning Point," "Bewitched," "Rumor Has It," and "In Her Shoes."
With many critically-acclaimed films under her belt, Shirley has revealed that she has no plans to retire from acting. Back in 2019, Vanity Fair noted that during an interview, the Academy Award-nominated actress said:
"Even at my age, I have four pictures to do next year. I think [some] costars are surprised I'm still walking upright."

As regards her love life, Shirley has only been married once, to Steve Parker, and that marriage ended in divorce in 1982. New York Times, however, pointed out that she has been in relationships with some well-known men.
Some of those men include Prime Minister Olof Palme of Sweden, the French singer/actor Yves Montand, the novelist Pete Hamill, and the movie icon, Robert Mitchum.
