Handsome Vampire Diaries star Steve R McQueen has big shoes to fill as he takes the Hollywood path like his grandfather before him.

His grandfather was called “The King of Cool” and one of the hottest leading men in the 60s and 70s. Steve R McQueen's childhood was spent moving to different cities with his mother and stepfather, pro hockey player Luc Robitaille.

“And all of a sudden I started watching my grandpas movies and I saw what an impact he made on the world. And I said to myself, ‘Hey, I wanna do that.’ ”

Starring in iconic films like “Bullitt”, “The Great Escape”, “Magnificent Seven”, and “The Thomas Crown Affair” Steve McQueen was a superstar. But despite all the success and awards, McQueen humbly said,

“I’m not a great actor - let’s face it. I don’t have a great deal of scope. There are certain things I can do, but went I’m bad, I stink. There’s something about my shaggy dog eyes that makes people think I’m good. I’m not all that good.”

The 60s icon also loved dressing down in his blue jeans and was known to avoid socials and interviews if he could. A motorcycle and car enthusiast, the actor loved to do his own stunts, especially car and motorcycle chases.

His son Chad shared that his dad was an avid car, bike, and plane collector.

“When my dad passed away he had 38 cars and about 140 motorcycles, not to mention he had a few planes, too -- World War II vintage biplanes that he liked. I know he was fond of Porsche. One day he’d be driving a Porsche, and the next day we’re in a 1953 Chevvy truck. He had different tastes.”

He was also an excellent mechanic.

“He could fix pretty much everything, in fact, he was in the motor pool in the Marines, so he was very adept with a crescent wrench and wooden box wrench.”
