In his post before her birthday, Connor made an early birthday wish for her. He revealed how much he missed her.
His mother also posted an amazing tribute to her sister. She posted on the 2nd anniversary of Matthews’ passing, she shared a photo captioned:
“Miss you sooo much sis. Today is more magical because of you Denise. I felt you all day, your love, your guidance. I can’t believe it’s been 2 years today since you left the physical for the blessed world. Forever with us you are my love…”
Fans were blown away by how touching the tributes were. Many took to the comments to share their wishes and memories of the star as well.
"Her light of God was over her even when she was Vanity. I LOVED HER when I first saw her on television long ago. I fell in love with her light. I know she is in heaven singing and praising God like no other," wrote one Instagram user.
When she passed, her good friend Prince had also made a tribute to her. He had been her mentor and confidant.
During his first solo show in Australia, he played several songs from the time he and Denise worked together. His set included a mash-up of “Little Red Corvette” and “Dirty Minds.”
He also made a speech during the concert. He said:
“Can I tell you a story about Vanity? Or should I tell you a story about Denise? Her and I used to love each other deeply. She loved me for the artist I was, I loved her for the artist she was trying to be. She and I would fight. She was very headstrong cos she knew she was the finest woman in the world. She never missed an opportunity to tell you that.”
