Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal's son Shareef had to undergo heart surgery this week and decided to share updates on his health with fans on Instagram.

Last September, it was revealed that the UCLA Bruins freshman would have to miss the entire 2018-2019 basketball season after doctors found a "medical issue" that dealt with his heart. Last Wednesday, he let everyone know that he had to undergo surgery the next day.

Early last Thursday, Shaunie O'Neal, his mother, shared a photo from the hospital while narrating how difficult it is for her to see Shareef suffering. She even wished that she could take his place, or that she could hold his hand during surgery. Regardless of how old, big, or grown her kids are, she says that they will always be her babies. In the end, she entrusted him to God and that he is in complete control over the situation.

After a successful surgery, Shareef himself provided updates to those who were wishing for his speedy recovery. On Instagram, he thanked everyone for all their thoughts and prayers and ensured them that he was going to be back really soon - better than ever.

"I made it. Thank you for all the love and support! I really appreciate all your thoughts and prayers, that's what helped me through this surgery. I'm on the road to recovery, and I'll beback soon... better than ever. His Words, typed by Mimi oneal"

Now, the 6'9" rising basketball star is set to rest before heading on to continue his passion for basketball. He was rated a 4-star prospect and No. 41 overall player in the 2018 freshman class, and after he fully recovers from his surgery, he hopes to play for UCLA in the next season as originally planned.
