The famous cookery show star opened up about her husband of nearly 50 years and explained what has kept their relationship going strong throughout the years.

In an interview in Huffington Post, Ina Garten talked about the secret ingredient of her successful marriage and credited it to something that Tony Robbins said during a Larry King interview.

She explained that when King asked Robbins about the “one” key to a happy marriage, she thought that it would not be possible to name just one thing that could keep a relationship going strong.

However, Robbins’ reply absolutely stunned her as she found it to be truer than anything else. Garten quoted Robbins as replying to King, “Each person needs to feel that they’re the most important thing in the other person’s life.”

According to Garten, she found that statement to be absolutely true as it was “the one thing” that would keep a relationship strong.

She further explained that it was exactly what she felt about her husband, Jeffery, and what her husband felt about her.

Meanwhile, a report from Nicki Swift further speculated that absence also plays a key role in keeping the couple’s relationship strong.

The source suggested that both Garten and Jeffery are busy in their respective career and don’t see each other too much during the week. This why the ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder.’

Garten has never shied away from praising her husband and opening up about what makes him such a great partner.

During her interview with People, the “Barefoot Contessa” star also revealed the one side of Jeffrey that viewers don’t get to see on television.

She stated that her husband often plays an “adorable kind of doofus guy,” who pretends to not know anything. She explained that her husband was, in fact, extremely smart and has “interesting ideas on the world and the economy.”

“His career has spanned government, academia, banking, and writing—he’s authored many books—I’m still just in awe of him,” Garten told in the interview.

The couple’s romance began back in 1963 when she was only 15 years of age and was visiting her brother at Dartmouth College, where Jeffrey was also studying.
